| People with hearing in only
one ear have special challenges. Sounds coming from the poorer side are always
more difficult to hear. For this reason, your hearing professional may recommend
a CROS hearing system. CROS stands for Contralateral Routing of Signal, or sending
of sound to the better ear.
CROS hearing systems work by placing a microphone
on the poorer ear and sending sound to the better ear. That way, you can hear
sounds on the "bad side" via the "good" ear. Communication
in a variety of situations becomes much easier. BiCROS hearing systems
are used when the better ear also needs some amplification.
